Planning a festive stop at COEX? This guide looks back at the 2025 paper-art display and helps you plan indoor photographs, Samseong access and a Gangnam half-day. A later season can have a different design and calendar; dates from other Starfield branches do not apply.
An indoor
Christmas stop that does not need darkness
The COEX Starfield Library display suits travelers who want
bookshelves, an open atrium and a festive tree in the same frame. Being
indoors makes it easier to fit around daylight sightseeing, cold weather
or a family schedule. If you want a long outdoor illumination walk,
think of this as a photography and shopping stop instead, not a whole
evening festival.
The aquarium is an optional, separately ticketed indoor activity—not the admission ticket for the library Christmas tree.
COEX is
one branch, not a shared Starfield installation
The 2025 COEX display combined a large paper tree with story-led scenery. Materials, themes and partnerships can
change, so an archived paper-tree campaign is not a promise for a later
visit.
COEX, Hanam, Suwon, Goyang and Anseong have distinct campaigns.
Include COEX in searches. If the photograph you want shows the other
dramatic library, first consult the Starfield
Suwon guide rather than discovering the branch mismatch after
reaching Samseong.
| Photograph | Useful approach | Courtesy point |
|---|---|---|
| Tree and bookshelves | Stand back at ground level | Keep circulation clear |
| Atrium overview | Permitted upper-level position | Never stop on an escalator |
| Portrait and scenery | Separate subject from background | Move on after the shot |
Allow time to navigate
inside the mall
Use Samseong Station and the COEX complex as your transport
references, then follow signs for Starfield Library or 별마당도서관.
Finding the right indoor route can take longer than the final distance
from the subway to the building. With a stroller, choose elevators
rather than improvising around an escalator. The Seoul subway
guide helps with the station part of the journey.
Two
useful photo perspectives, with considerate movement
Begin at ground level to show the relationship between the tree and
the bookshelves, then look for a permitted upper-level standing area for
an overview. Change floors to change your angle, not to stop or walk
backward on an escalator. For a portrait, leaving some space between the
subject and the tree can preserve more of the background.
Allow roughly 30–60 minutes for looking and photographs, adding
separate time for reading, shopping or a cafe. This is a planning
estimate. The library is not a private photography studio: readers,
staff and ordinary pedestrian movement still need room.
Make the
aquarium an option, not a required purchase
The library can sit before or after lunch, followed by COEX shopping
or the nearby Hyundai Trade Center branch’s separate seasonal display.
Each installation has its own dates and access arrangements.
Families wanting a longer indoor anchor can read the COEX
Aquarium guide and compare aquarium
tickets. An aquarium ticket is not a requirement for seeing the
library tree. If based in Gangnam, a half-day is easy to organize; if
staying elsewhere, consider the overall route rather than moving hotels
for one photograph. The Gangnam
hotel-area guide explains the location trade-offs.
The 2025
paper-tree edition and the library’s location
The 2025 theme was A Page of Christmas Wonder, announced by
the operator on November 14, 2025. A ten-meter paper Christmas tree
anchored a storybook-like environment. This describes the 2025 design,
not a new 2026 installation. COEX and other Starfield branches have separate calendars. Do not use another branch’s January 2026 closing date to plan a COEX visit.
The library is on B1 of COEX Mall, 159
Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, approximately 353 meters from Samseong
Station, Line 2, Exit 5. Allow time to locate the atrium inside. A
Starfield sign identifies the complex but not necessarily the library;
continue looking for 별마당도서관.
Why the 2025
display was more than a large tree
Three story chapters connected the paper tree with amusement-park
imagery and a large snow-globe setting. Carousel, balloon and
Ferris-wheel motifs described scenery, not a promise of ticketed rides.
Visitors interested in paper craft could focus on folds and layered
construction, while keeping the bookshelves visible in wider photographs
preserved the location’s distinctive identity.
The 2025 program also included a wish-tree activity and performances
on selected dates. Decorations being visible did not mean a show took
place every day. Anyone traveling specifically for music or a family
activity should consult the relevant season’s program separately. For a
tree photograph alone, there is no need to organize the whole visit
around an old performance time. Combining the library, lunch and
shopping into one indoor stretch is usually more practical than making
two separate journeys to Gangnam.
FAQ
Are COEX and Suwon the same
library?
No. They are different branches in different locations, with separate
displays and travel routes.
Must I visit after dark?
Not necessarily. The indoor setting can work during daytime mall
hours when the seasonal display is operating.
Is an aquarium ticket
required?
No. The aquarium is a separate paid attraction, not a prerequisite
for the library display.
