Start with direct trains from Bujeon
Do not assume a transfer via Dongdaegu is the only rail option. KORAIL introduced Donghae KTX-Eum services from Bujeon to Gangneung in late December 2025, calling at Taehwagang, Gyeongju and Pohang. For 2026, first search Bujeon–Pohang direct trains and compare them with coaches. Direct service does not mean a train at every preferred time, so check the actual date, train type and seats.
Pohang Station, the intercity bus terminal and the express-bus terminal are different arrival points. Before comparing, map the hotel or destination, whether Yeongildae Beach, Jukdo Market or Guryongpo. Omitting the final connection can turn an apparently faster intercity journey into an extra transfer.

Bujeon is different from Busan Station
Bujeon railway station is 부전역, near the Seomyeon area. Busan Station is 부산역 in another part of the city. The direct route described here starts at Bujeon. From Nampo, include the local approach; from Seomyeon, compare a walk or short ride to the railway concourse. The Line 1 metro stop and the intercity boarding area are not one platform.
Use the official KORAIL site for Bujeon–Pohang, the actual date and passenger count. Inspect direct KTX-Eum, ITX or other services offered. A faster train after a long wait may arrive later than a slower departure available sooner. Compare departure, arrival, train number and seat class together.
From Haeundae, do not assume every train to Pohang stops at Shin-Haeundae because some Donghae-area trains do. Search that exact station pair or compare access to Bujeon. Jungang services toward Seoul and Donghae services toward Gangneung can share track without sharing all stopping patterns.
Compare the actual departure, not only the train brand
Compare a suitable conventional departure with KTX-Eum, but distinguish both from the tap-and-go commuter line to Taehwagang. The services differ in ticketing and stopping range. A connection can be considered, but there is little value in complicating an available direct journey merely to use a transport card. Clear origins, destinations and valid reserved tickets are easier to manage.
If no direct train suits your date, inspect connecting services in full: interchange, both train numbers, transfer time and combined fare. A route through Dongdaegu can involve a detour and should be chosen for a real timing or seat advantage, not because an old guide treated it as the default. A direct outbound departure also does not guarantee a convenient direct return after dinner.
Search Nopo and Sasang coaches separately
Pohang departures can be checked from Dongbu at Nopo and Seobu at Sasang. Nopo connects with Metro Line 1, Sasang with Line 2. Compare Nopo from northern Busan and Sasang from Seomyeon or western areas, using actual departures. “Busan” alone is not a sufficient terminal name; match the Korean origin on the ticket to the map.
Check dates in Bustago or the intercity ticketing system. Verify the Pohang arrival point, any Gyeongju stop and seat class. The coach’s advantage may be access or timing rather than a guaranteed lower fare. Road traffic also makes a quoted journey time less certain for a fixed appointment.
Pohang Station to Yeongildae: check bus 9000’s direction
Search 포항역 to 영일대해수욕장 for the complete beach connection. Start with bus 9000 for the station–Yeongildae corridor. For the beachfront Lahan hotel, allow roughly 30 minutes on the bus as a planning reference. That is a destination-specific reference, not the travel time to every beach hotel, and it excludes your actual waiting time.
Check the direction as well as the route number. Use the Pohang traffic center links to bus and stop information. Search 죽도시장 for Jukdo Market or the hotel’s full address for accommodation. A taxi is another comparison, but an old hotel-page taxi estimate is not a fixed 2026 fare.
For Yeongildae from the intercity terminal, official destination guidance lists 207,600 and 900. These are different starting arrangements from railway-station route 9000, illustrating why arrival choice matters. Compare both last-mile journeys before deciding that the train or coach is automatically best.
Guryongpo, Homigot and ferry ports need separate planning
For Guryongpo or Homigot, the intercity arrival is only the first stage. A long route such as 9000 is not necessarily a short tourist shuttle. Check the full ride, direction and stops before also adding Yeongildae and Jukdo Market. Without a car, separating the northern waterfront and southern peninsula into different days can reduce repeated cross-city travel.
For a ferry, use the exact port and reporting time printed on the sailing ticket. Different harbor areas are not one integrated building beside the train and bus stations. The road or rail ticket does not protect a missed boat. Consider arriving the previous evening and work backward from confirmed sailing arrangements instead of depending on several tight connections.
Let accommodation and the next city shape the return
From Seomyeon, check a usable Bujeon–Pohang return and add the journey back from Yeongildae to the station. If sunset or night views matter, verify the return before visiting. An overnight beach stay lets the arrival day remain local and leaves distant areas for the next day. Compare that room cost with the time and transport implications of returning immediately.
For Gyeongju or Ulsan next, the Busan to Gyeongju and Busan to Ulsan transport guides help explain station choices, but change the actual origin when booking. Times quoted for separate legs do not mean the trains connect. Fix the overnight order, then search each actual station pair and date.
Evaluate a rail pass across the whole trip rather than assuming KTX makes it worthwhile. Add eligible long-distance single fares and compare the applicable travel days; local buses and taxis remain extra. Existing pass holders still need the appropriate reservation and eligible train, and should not treat a rail pass as a card for roads, metros or ferries.
Compare a pass for a wider rail itinerary
For several long-distance KORAIL journeys, compare eligible single fares with a pass. Verify each train: former SRT services being renamed KTX does not establish pass eligibility. Metropolitan trains and connecting buses are separate.

No such assumption is valid; search the exact station pair.
Which bus should I check for Yeongildae?
Start with 9000 and verify direction and the stop for your destination.
