This guide reviews Lotte Main’s October 31–December 31, 2025 Sweet Holidays display. Its 2026 theme, tree design and lighting schedule are still to come.
A worthwhile short stop, not an entire evening by itself
Lotte Department Store Main works best as a compact Christmas stop linking Myeongdong shopping, window displays and city streets. It suits travelers who enjoy the details of retail presentation and an urban festive atmosphere. If your goal is a substantial outdoor market, Jamsil’s World Park is a different destination, not a nearby extension simply because both use the Lotte name. Start with the Seoul Christmas guide when choosing your main event.
Keep Main, Jamsil and Shinsegae separate
Lotte Main and Shinsegae Main have separate displays and have used different seasonal periods. Their opening and closing dates cannot be exchanged. This guide concerns the Main department store near Myeongdong, not Lotte World Tower, its market or the amusement park.
Store access and exterior decoration also need separate planning. If you want shopping, food and photographs, finish the activities requiring indoor access first, then view the frontage as conditions allow. Do not assume every department-store floor operates for as long as an exterior display.
| Name | Location concept | Main outing |
|---|---|---|
| Lotte Main | Near Myeongdong | Windows and shopping |
| Jamsil Lotte market | Tower / World Park | Market and lakeside half-day |
| Shinsegae Main | Another Myeongdong store | Media-facade viewing |
Getting to the correct store and viewing safely
Search for 롯데백화점 본점 and use the Euljiro 1-ga area as your subway reference. Choose the actual entrance according to your starting point and current access. Check the store name after leaving the station instead of trusting a broad search for “Lotte.” The Korean navigation guide is useful preparation for a first visit.
You do not always need a distant view for good photographs. Close views can show the texture and layers of a window display; an overall facade photograph needs a safe position with adequate space. Keep store entrances and pedestrian routes clear.
Give photographs a realistic time allowance
Around 20–40 minutes is a sensible initial budget for the frontage and windows, excluding shopping and restaurant queues. If your companions have different levels of interest, agree on a meeting point rather than making everyone wait at each window.
When glass reflections interfere, change your angle instead of firing a flash directly at the window. For a portrait, find a position that does not interrupt people entering the store, then compose the shot. Do not press equipment against display glass simply to reduce reflections.
Build a comfortable Myeongdong route
One workable sequence is shopping, Lotte Main’s decoration, then an optional walk toward Shinsegae. Whether to visit both depends on the evening’s operating arrangements and your energy. Cheonggyecheon or N Seoul Tower should be treated as another outing segment, not an effortless adjacent stop. The five-day Seoul itinerary helps spread night views across separate days.
A Myeongdong hotel makes a brief visit especially flexible. If returning across Seoul, prepare the subway transfer before shopping so a relaxed evening does not end in a last-train rush.
The 2025 Sweet Holidays design featured Tonttu, a Christmas elf illustrated by French artist Nathalie Lété. At Main, a 13-meter tree and animated shop window provided closer details beyond the overall facade. Those features belong to the 2025 display; the next season may use a different design.
Lotte Main’s 2025 dates, address and viewing angles
The 2025 display ran from October 31 to December 31, 2025, with facade lighting from 17:30–23:00. These are 2025 arrangements, not an announcement for late 2026. A January visit also needs an independent check: Shinsegae’s longer previous season does not mean Lotte Main continued for the same period.
The address is 81 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (서울 중구 남대문로 81). Euljiro 1-ga Station on Line 2 is the relevant subway reference. A 2025 viewing angle was near the Apple Store by Exit 6. Treat that as an orientation aid, not a reserved photography area. Observe barriers, crowds and shop entrances rather than forcing a photograph from an unsuitable position. The department-store location guide helps confirm the destination.
Make separate photographs of the facade and smaller details
For the whole building, first find a safe position far enough away to understand its outline. For nearby decorations, return to a permitted closer position rather than trying to capture everything from one spot. Wet pavements may reflect the lights attractively, but a photograph is not a reason to crouch beside traffic or ignore slippery ground. When time is limited, one overall composition and one detail image are more effective than repeated repositioning through a crowd.
The display fits a gap before or after dinner at the end of a Myeongdong shopping day. It does not require a dedicated half-day. If someone needs a seated rest, plan a proper meal or cafe stop first. Store entrances, escalator landings and station stairs are not waiting seats.
FAQ
Is Lotte Main the same as Lotte World in Jamsil?
No. The Main department store is near Myeongdong; Jamsil has a separate cluster of Lotte facilities.
Can I use Shinsegae’s showtimes?
No. Different operators and seasonal programs require independent checks.
Do I need an observation ticket?
Do not assume an exterior street view requires an observation-deck product. Indoor experiences and other paid attractions follow their own rules.
