A local art garden, not a department-store market
This guide looks back at the first Merry Munrae Christmas Village, held December 21–22, 2024 at Munrae Flower Garden. Admission was free, with paid market programmes. As of October 22, 2026, the next full visitor calendar was still to come; do not use the historical dates to plan this winter’s trip.
Its distinctive appeal was the participation of residents, artists and small manufacturers. The trees belonged to a neighborhood craft setting rather than a branded shopping interior. Look closely at the YDP Tree and Secret Forest
The 2024 YDP Tree and Secret Forest were created by artist Lee Han-ju, 이한주, together with local small-scale makers. Santa photographs, Munrae workshop activities and a Snowball Shop for buying or making presents added to the programme.
Start with a photograph showing the tree in its garden setting, then look for the metalwork and details. The point is not simply to place yourself in front of another illuminated cone. The involvement of neighborhood artists made this a chance to look at work and choose a small gift, rather than a substitute for department-store shopping.

Market hours were not the same as lighting hours
The 2024 programme included a Rudolph train with Santa, crafts, gift stalls and winter snacks. The December 21 lighting countdown began at 17:30, followed by the district youth choir. A stamp-passport activity, hot drink reward and sheltered warming area were features of that edition, not permanent garden services.
Activities ran 12:00–20:00 on December 21 and 12:00–19:00 on December 22. Landscape lighting separately ran 17:30–23:00. Arriving late enough to see the lights did not mean the train, workshops and shops would still be operating. Materials could also run out before the scheduled closing time. Pick your child’s priority activity first, then leave space for the tree rather than saving every hands-on activity until the end.
The correct garden and Munrae Station exit
The destination is 문래동꽃밭정원, also written 문래 꽃밭정원, at 55-6 Munrae-dong 3-ga, Yeongdeungpo-gu. As of May 2026, the garden approach is approximately 429 metres from Munrae Station Exit 5. Nearby Munrae Neighborhood Park is not the festival garden itself. The flower garden has no on-site parking; the neighborhood park’s public lot is an alternative, not free or guaranteed festival parking.
Take Line 2 to Munrae and navigate using the Korean garden name rather than a generic search for Christmas trees. Our Seoul subway guide helps with the rail part. With a stroller, select the usable lift route even if it adds some walking compared with the named exit.
A comfortable half-day rather than a shopping marathon
If a later edition keeps this format, visit the surrounding creative neighborhood or a café in the afternoon, browse the garden activities before dark and finish with the lighting. Allow around 45–60 minutes for the trees and a garden stroll, longer if joining workshops or queuing for children’s activities. Adjust the visit to the activities you choose and your group’s pace.
The ordinary garden has seating, toilets and children’s play areas, but spring and summer facilities do not guarantee that every feature operates during a winter festival. Standing still while children make something can feel colder than walking, so adults need warm layers too. Fit the daytime portion into our five-day Seoul itinerary. Will the Rudolph train operate whenever the lights are on?
Not necessarily. In 2024 activities ended at 20:00 on Saturday and 19:00 on Sunday, while landscape lighting had a later switch-off. Follow each new programme’s operating schedule.
